2022 Harcourt Syrah
Grown on granite. Fermented in chaos. Best served cold.
This is Syrah, stripped back to its rawest essence — a rebellious, lo-fi red raised by granite and grit.
From a wild 2-acre vineyard clinging to decomposed granite at 400m above sea level near Mount Alexander, this organically grown Syrah thrives without a single spray, fertiliser, or intervention. The 30-year-old vines — dry-grown, own-rooted, and battle-tested — are left to do their thing, with thigh-high grasses and the odd snake encounter just part of the growing season.
Picked early to lock in electric acidity, the fruit undergoes a six-day carbonic-style maceration submerged in its own rosé juice. Fermentation kicks off in Italian fibreglass tanks, untouched by oak or additives. No filtration. No fining. No fluff.
What you get is a vivid, crunchy Syrah bursting with lifted red fruits, a hint of savoury herbs, and a mineral backbone straight from the rocks. Chill it down and let it slap — this wine was made for the fridge, not the cellar.
